Ask ten people in Doha what “car detailing” means and you’ll get ten answers. For some it’s a thorough wash with tyre shine. For others it’s a full day of machine polishing, a ceramic coat and a cabin that smells like nothing at all. Both get sold under the same name, which is why prices for “a detail” can look wildly different from one shop to the next.
This guide breaks a proper detail into its parts, explains what each part does for a car that lives in Qatar’s sun and dust, and shows what it costs at White Crown so you can compare like with like.
What car detailing actually covers
A car wash cleans what you can see. Detailing goes further: it corrects the paint, cleans the parts of the cabin a wash never reaches, and usually finishes with some form of protection. A complete detail has three layers of work.
1. Exterior: wash, decontaminate, polish
The car is washed by hand first, then the paint is treated with a clay bar to lift the bonded grit and fallout that washing leaves behind. Run your hand over a “clean” car that has never been clayed and you’ll feel it: the surface is slightly rough. Only then does the polishing start.
Car polishing is where most of the visible change happens. A machine and polishing compounds take a very thin layer off the clear coat, removing swirl marks, light scratches, water spots and the dullness that years of sun leave behind. At White Crown this is done in three stages with German SONAX products, then the paint gets a protective finish. The wheels, tyres, glass and headlights are cleaned and polished, and the engine bay is cleaned with steam.
2. Interior: deep clean and sanitise
Interior car detailing means every surface, not just a vacuum and a wipe. The roof lining, carpets, door cards, dashboard, seat belts and pedals are cleaned with products made for each material, stains are lifted, and the AC is sanitised with steam to deal with stale smells. In the more thorough packages the seats come out, because the worst of the sand, crumbs and lost coins collects underneath them.
3. Protection: keep the result
Polished paint looks its best on day one. What keeps it that way is protection: wax for a short-term layer, ceramic coating for a harder, longer-lasting one, or paint protection film (PPF) if you want a physical barrier against stone chips. Window tint belongs here too, since it protects the cabin you’ve just cleaned from heat and UV.
Why detailing matters more in Qatar
Cars here age differently. Fine sand settles on the paint every day, and wiping it off dry, or running the car through a brush wash, grinds it into the clear coat as swirl marks. Strong sun fades paint and dries out leather and dashboard plastics. Bird droppings and water spots bake onto hot panels within hours. And because the AC runs for most of the year, odours build up in the system faster than in milder climates.
None of this is a reason to detail every month. It’s a reason to detail properly when you do, and to protect the result afterwards.

How to choose the right level
- The car is in decent shape and you want it fresh again: a first-level polishing or interior bundle is usually enough.
- The cabin has stains, smells, or hasn’t been properly cleaned in a long time: go for a package where the seats come out. It’s the only way to reach what’s underneath.
- You’re selling the car: exterior polish plus an interior detail does the most for the first impression. Skip long-term protection; the next owner won’t pay extra for it.
- You’re keeping the car for years: polish once, then protect with ceramic coating or PPF so you aren’t polishing again every year.
- New car: it rarely needs heavy polishing. Protection is the priority, though new paint can still carry marks from transport and dealer washes, so have it inspected first.
What a good detailer does before quoting
Be wary of anyone who quotes a fixed “full correction” price without looking at the car. Paint should be inspected under strong light, because swirl marks that are invisible in the shade are obvious under a lamp or in direct sun. A good detailer will tell you which marks will come out, which will only soften, and which need a different repair altogether. Deep scratches that reach the colour coat, or dents, are bodywork jobs, not polishing jobs.
Ask how long the car will be with them, too. A proper interior detail alone usually takes 3 to 5 hours depending on the car’s condition. If a “full detail” is promised in under an hour, something is being skipped.

FAQ
What is the difference between a car wash and car detailing?
A wash removes surface dirt. Detailing also decontaminates and polishes the paint, deep-cleans the interior surface by surface, and adds protection. The result lasts weeks or months rather than days.
How much does car detailing cost in Qatar?
At White Crown, polishing and interior detailing packages start at QAR 350 for a sedan and QAR 400 for an SUV, and ceramic coating packages start at QAR 600. The right package depends on the car’s condition.
Can you detail my car at home?
Yes. We detail cars at homes and offices across Qatar for the same price as at our branches.
How long does a full detail take?
It depends on the package and the car’s condition. An interior detail alone usually takes 3 to 5 hours; we give you an estimate after inspecting the car.
Should I get ceramic coating after detailing?
If you plan to keep the car, yes. Coating straight after a polish locks in the corrected finish and makes washing much easier. Coating over unpolished paint seals the swirl marks in.
